Saudi Arabia is not a disaster-prone country affected by natural calamities frequently. However, when the Saudi western coastal city of Jeddah was ravaged by unforeseen and unprecedented floods in recent years, the Foundation came to the aid of the devastated city and its victims. The tragedy left about 10,000 people homeless, and destroyed thousands of homes, buildings and vehicles.
The Saudi Government provided significant relief and recovery support to the victims, but the scale of the disaster called for collaboration with other organizations of the country to participate in mitigating the impact of the floods. Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation took the initiative to reach out to the suffering people of Jeddah and provided the necessary recovery assistance. The Foundation donated 1000 cars for people who lost their cars, and purchased and distributed 10,000 electric household appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, ovens and air conditioners, as well as mattresses to the victims.
